Ukiah Teacher Selected to Participate in Development of Nationwide STEM Curricula

Ukiah, OR – Laura Orr, a science teacher in the Ukiah School District, has been chosen to be a Teacher Advisor for “Bringing the Universe to America’s Classrooms,” an initiative to create new instructional models and digital media tools for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning. Orr was chosen by the education team at Boston public media producer WGBH. The new resources to engage students about topics in Earth, space and physical sciences will be produced by WGBH in collaboration with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), and will be distributed free of charge through PBS Learning Media, reaching millions of students and teachers nationally.

IMESD Receives Innovation Awards from OAESD

The InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD) was awarded two New Ideas in Education Innovation Awards for 2015-16 by The Oregon Association of Education Service Districts (OAESD) in May. These annual awards are for innovative ideas, projects or programs initiated in member ESD organizations. The IMESD was awarded for its School Security Initiative and its Wellness Hubs.

Three School Districts Pass Bond Measures

The IMESD is pleased to congratulate three of its school districts on the passage Tuesday, May 17, of school bond measures. The Athena-Weston, Echo and Milton-Freewater districts were all successful in securing funds for their students and facilities. All three will receive matching $4 million grants from the Oregon School Capital Improvement Matching Program (Senate Bill 447).
