The InterMountain Education Service District will host its Grand Opening celebration this Thursday, Aug. 18, and the Eastern Oregon community is invited to attend. The celebration, which begins at 4:15 p.m., will take place at the IMESD main office, 2001 S.W. Nye Ave., in Pendleton.

“We are very excited to begin the 2011-2012 school year as InterMountain ESD,” said IMESD Superintendent Dr. Mark Mulvihill. “We have a phenomenal staff who provide high quality services for schools and students, and we’re looking forward to continuing our work in the Umatilla, Morrow, Union, and Baker county school districts.”

The celebration will feature local student entertainment, as well as comments from IMESD and school district administrators, and community members.

The IMESD is the result of a merge between the Umatilla-Morrow ESD and Union-Baker ESD, which was completed on May 30, 2011. The new agency’s 250 staff members will now serve approximately 24,000 students in 21 school districts in Umatilla, Morrow, Union and Baker counties. Services to schools include special education, technology, professional development, administrative services, printing, cooperative purchasing, communications, and more.

The IMESD also has an office in the Union County building in La Grande.
