Part Time: 600 hours per year

Under direction of the Audiologist, administer basic audiometric screening and threshold tests to school-age students to ensure that potential hearing problems do not interfere with a student’s ability to learn.


  • Complete observation of the ear canals with an otoscope and perform pure tone hearing screening and impedance screening on individual students under the direction of the Audiologist.

  • Assist the Audiologist in organizing the physical setting for screening and transporting equipment from site to site.

  • Move equipment in and out of buildings when necessary to provide hearing screenings.

  • In cooperation with school personnel, set up and maintain an appropriate monitoring schedule.

  • Share screening information with parents, appropriate school and ESD personnel.

  • Maintain record-keeping program data.

  • Determine referral sources based on screening results.

  • Actively participate in training sessions and attend staff meetings.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and interactions.

  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned.


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Individual must hold valid driver’s license and have reliable, insured transportation for required travel to IMESD sites.

  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment from vehicle to school building.

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to focus, organize and prioritize.

On-Site Hearing Screening Skills:

  • Demonstrate respect for student’s rights and needs in managing behavior.

  • Give clear directions and check for student understanding.

  • Provide positive reinforcement and encouragement to students.


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience with medical terminology, preferred.

  • Experience working with children, preferred.


  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)

  • Microsoft Outlook Express


    Audiometric Technician is required to travel to school districts in Morrow, Umatilla, and Union Counties.   Occasionally, may be asked to travel on overnight assignments or professional development.  Individual must hold valid driver’s license and have reliable, insured transportation for required travel to IMESD sites.

    Individual will work on an annual contract. Any changes in contract days will be stipulated in each individual contract. Salary and benefits to be established by the IMESD Education Association in accordance with negotiated agreement with the IMESD Board of Directors. Schedule and assignments to be established by Department Director.
