IMESD becomes official June 1

June 1, 2011, marks an historical day in Oregon -- the establishment of the InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD). The merger between the Umatilla-Morrow and Union-Baker ESDs was more than a year-long process and completed on May 31.

"This is a momentous occasion for ESDs and for education in Eastern Oregon," said IMESD Superintendent Dr. Mark Mulvihill. "Much cooperation, collaboration and patience from our staff and board members has gone into this merger. I am so appreciative of each and every one of them for helping to make this merger so successful."

As of June 1, Umatilla-Morrow and Union-Baker ESDs cease to exist. IMESD now consists of four counties -- Umatilla, Morrow, Union and Baker -- and the 21 public school districts in those counties. If you'd like to contact an IMESD staff member, click here for our online directory.
