IMESD to host annual Eastern Oregon Executive Summit

The InterMountain Education Service District will host the 5th annual Eastern Oregon Executive Summit for regional education administrators July 29-30 at its headquarters in Pendleton.

Nearly 30 administrators from school districts all over eastern Oregon are registered to attend the event, which brings them together with board members and other district office staff to hear about state education issues and how they relate to eastern Oregon school districts.

Featured speakers include Whitney Grubbs from the Oregon Education Investment Board – who will provide a State of the State address on education reform – and Jada Ripley, Oregon's Early Learning Council Executive Director, who will speak about Oregon’s early learning initiatives. The summit provides information that can be used for board and administrator retreats, and is an opportunity for eastern Oregon school executives to kick off the school year and vet new concepts in education.

“This is probably one of my most enjoyable events that IMESD puts on during the year, simply because of the networking opportunities,” said IMESD Superintendent Dr. Mark Mulvihill. “It’s the one time of year our government leaders in education come together to network and work with our local leaders. We always look forward to bringing over our colleagues from Salem, and it’s a great way for our local school leaders to kick off the new school year.”

A total of 12 speakers will address participants of the two-day summit. Other speakers will include Craig Hawkins of the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators – who will talk about legislative issues – and Cindy Simmons of the Oregon School Activities Association, who will conduct a Question and Answer session with participants and provide an update on OSAA issues. Other topics will include the Eastern Promise, a healthcare reform update, and regional professional development, as well as workshops regarding administrative technology and the new school report card.
