Dr. Nancy Golden, Oregon's recently-appointed Chief Education Officer, will visit Eastern Oregon on a whirlwind tour Monday, Oct. 14. Dr. Golden will visit several regional schools, as well as meet with regional school district superintendents.

Dr. Golden was appointed in early October 2013 as Chief Education Officer following the departure of Dr. Rudy Crew. Most recently, Dr. Golden was superintendent of Springfield (Ore.) Public Schools, where she developed the Springfield Quality Education Model, significantly increased student achievement, successfully passed a $42.7 million bond, and established a clear vision: Every Student a Graduate Prepared for a Bright and Successful Future. In addition, the district was the first in Oregon to implement a One-to-One Laptop Initiative and opened a new high school, the Academy of Arts and Academics.

Dr. Golden was named 2011 Oregon Superintendent of the Year by the Confederation of School Administrators and in 2011 was asked by incoming Governor John Kitzhaber to serve as his Education Advisor for six months.
