Students set to compete in IMESD regional S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G contests
Around 40 students from three counties will show off their spelling skills in two regional contests in May. The InterMountain Education Service District annually sponsors the Umatilla-Morrow County Spelling Contest and the Union County Spelling Contest.

The students – who range from 1st through 12th grades – are the spelling champions from their respective divisions in their schools. The students take a written spelling test during the contest, and first through third place winners are selected in each of three divisions for each county: Division 1 (1st-5th grades), Division 2 (6th-8th grades), and Division 3 (9th-12th grades). An awards ceremony is held immediately following the completion of test scoring at the contest. Winners receive gift cards and trophies.
The first place winner from each division will be invited to compete at the state competition, which takes place on Aug. 30 in Salem during the Oregon State Fair.
