Fall Resource Fair a Success for Migrant Families

The IMESD Migrant Education Program had a Winter Resource fair on Wednesday, October 30th at West Park Elementary School. Warm clothing, blankets and jackets were donated by various individuals and groups. Then, families in the program were invited to come and receive items for free.

Eric Volger, Migrant Education Program Director, said, “This resource fair was a total success. Our families really took advantage of everything we had and thanked us for having this type of service.”

Isis Ilias, Parent Involvement Specialist for Umatilla School District, saved the day. Two or three families came near the end of the Resource Fair looking for jackets for their kids and none were left. As those families started leaving, Isis came in with two bags of jackets and the families took everything.

The Resource Fair served 70 families and 130 students. Thank you to everyone for helping make this event a success. “It takes a lot of work and long hours, but it’s all worth it,” Volger said.
