Friday, March 9th – 9am-4pm – La Grande, EOU
Join us for a FREE two-part session at Eastern Oregon University to kick-off the Math in Real Life Activities for the 2018-2019 school year.
Math and special education teachers and administrators for grade levels 6-12 are welcome!
Part one- Running Horse Presentation
RunningHorse Livingston is a nationally recognized consultant and instructional coach helping math teachers across the country make sense of their role in the age of Common Core Standards. During this workshop, he will lead you through effective methods to get students talking about math in your classroom. Examples will focus on middle school level but these methods can be applied preK-12. Participants will walk away with powerful and practical strategies to increase student engagement and participation in their math class.
Check out a website from his previous PD sessions here. mathematize.org
Part two- Forming PLC’s that focus on the REAL needs of math teachers
Teachers will be given time to discuss needs that could be addressed through PLC work with other math or special education teachers. From this discussion, PLC’s will be created that will start in the 2018-2019 school year. Running Horse will be present to offer suggestions of how his expertise could be utilized. Attending the kick-off does not mean you are required to be part of a PLC during the 2018-2019 school year. Teachers can decide based on this discussion if they want to participate in the PLC.
