8:00 - 11:00 Session 1: Math Strategies - Heidi Paullus, IMESD Instructional Coach
This session is designed to help ParaPros that work with students one on one or in small groups during math. We will discuss and explore the building blocks of math concepts and common mistakes we see in the classroom. Time will also be spent working with strategies to encourage students to have "productive struggle" while working through higher level math problems.
12:00 - 3:00 Session 2: Understanding Reading Instruction - Dr. Scott Smith, IMESD Instructional Coach
This afternoon is designed for ParaPros working with small group instruction during reading instruction. We will be discussing the science behind reading instruction along with engagement strategies used during instruction. Different pedagogies of reading instruction will be shared to build a better understanding of instruction along with understanding student behaviors.
An hour is provided for lunch on your own for those staying for both sessions.
